A pen can be a thing of beauty - a writing instrument to hold in your hand, to pen a note to a loved one, or just to take notes in a work or school environment.

​Whether you write all the time or just occasionally, its a pleasure to use a pen which feels right, that has texture and warmth, is tactile to touch, and you look forward to using.

A pen handcrafted from wood can be the answer to many people - but many have not even considered or been aware of these beautiful instruments, hand-made by people like me, that offer be-spoke, 'never the same twice' things made from woods from all over the world.

​This is why I started 'the Scottish Penster' project - to offer the opportunity to other people and to show what a simple and value-for-money way of treating yourself or giving someone you care about with that special gift.

Each pen I make is individual, and as it is made from natural wood the grain will be different.

Unless I specifically say in the description, the pen you receive may differ slightly from the picture.

If you want a specific pen made I can usually do this, and often can then email you a picture of the actual pen before you commit to it - I will say if you are asking for a particularly rare wood however that I need to go out and buy. There are some really exotic and rare woods that make great and unusual pens so please contact me and I will see what I can do.

As a further bespoke service I have started to make pens out of clients own wood - for instance I am making a set of pens for a Scottish client who owns a forest of Douglas Fir! But often client wood needs dried out so takes some time - sometimes months - before its ready.
